…so yeah, it’s been a little while since last I polluted the Interwebs.  I apologize.  I guess I’ll just fill you in on some things that have happened in the last month or so.  Well, most recently, I went to see Saves The Day at Neumo’s here in Seattle.  The show was fantastic (well, STD was fantastic.  The openers were all young, whiny, hip-haircutted bands that I had zero interest in.)  When I arrived, there was a ridiculously long line out front of the venue and I was positioned in between two groups of loud, teenage emo chicks.  Good grief.  I waited in line, listening to these girls talk about the hot dude in Spanish class for about 30 minutes before getting inside.  I immediately went to the bar, not just because I needed a drink, but I wanted to seperate myself from the pimply, annoying 15 year old crowd.  I watched the first few sets with very limited amusement and waited and waited for Saves The Day to come on.  Finally, Saves The Day came on and kicked my face off.  The highlight was “Jukebox Breakdown” off Stay What You Are, a song they haven’t played live in over 6 years.  Well, that’s what Chris the lead singer said anway.  I was standing near the front of the balcony when STD came on and I noticed a much shorter young lady next to me struggling to see over the beast of a woman in front of her.  I offered her my spot with a better vantage point and from there, we struck up a conversation and shared our mutual guilty love of STD.  We rocked out together and went and got a drink after the show.  I was also interviewed by some website after the show and they told me they were going to post my review online.  I don’t recall the website, so I have no idea if it is out there or not, but it was a fun interview.  I then looked at the time and realized I had missed the last bus that would take me back home on the other side of town.  But God bless Julie and her kind heart for letting me hang out with her and crash at her nearby apartment.  So Julie, if somehow you stumble across this garbage excuse for a blog, thanks a million.

I was out front of my building smoking a cigarette recently when out of the corner of my eye, I saw a tall bald man stumbling in my general direction.  When he got closer I recognized his face.  I had seen this dude on two previous occasions, both times being on the bus.  Each time he was a loud, disrespectful idiot.  When he got within arms-reach I looked at him and realized he was crying.  This dude was just walking down the road, stumbling and weeping.  Something obviously wasn’t right.  He saw that I was smoking a cigarette, so he stopped, stared at me, and reached into his pocket.  For a moment, I got tense, as I had no idea what to expect from this obviously messed-up person.  I balled my fist around my lighter in my pocket, as I do when I’m uneasy in certain situations, just in case I have to resort to some sort of physicality.  The lighter inside the fist is, I’m told (thankfully I’ve never had to resort to violence), a more effective way to punch someone and inflict more damage.  Anyway, the dude looks at me, tears in his eyes, snot running down his face, and says “Here, man….here” and hands me 6 Marlboro Light 100s.  I just look at him and say “Uhhh…thanks, man.  I appreciate it.”  He then takes a couple steps, almost falls on his face, then keeps wandering down the street.  As he gets about 100 yards away all I hear is an anguished “Arrrrrgggghhhh” coming from his general direction.  I felt bad for the guy.  He obviously has mental/substance problems.  I don’t know where he ended up, but it was definitely a strange experience.

I saw the most gorgeous girl on the bus.  She was what I like to call an unconventional beauty.  Big crop of tight red curls, fair skin.  The kind of girl you’d see at a coffeeshop rather than a nightclub.  You know, more Better Homes and Gardens than Maxim.  Natural and not fake looking in anyway.  In other words, my kind of girl.  If I see her on the bus again, I’ll say something to her, but in this day and age of Ipods, it’s hard to start a conversation when everyone has earbuds on.

Gotta jet.  Til next time.

I can’t believe they play “Jukebox Breakdown” so infrequently. That may be my favorite Saves the Day song, and that’s definitely my favorite album of theirs. I meant to find out when that show was, but obviously didn’t, which is too bad. Good to see you back in the blogosphere (sorry I used that word. It just came out).

  2. Always interesting to hear your exploits. Not enough blogs out there with just plain interesting stories.

And Drew, there’s no shame in the blogosphere. It’s sad that it came to mainstream use, but it’s something that we all must stoically acknowledge, and then move on.

At least it’s not a vlog or just “The Tubes”

    I used ‘Interwebs’…so I’ll let blogosphere slide.
